Online Yearbook

Develop an Alumni Electronic Yearbook

Popular feature on the University of Maryland, University College website.

University of Maryland, University College has developed an interesting way to stay in touch with alumni. Their website features an Alumni Electronic Yearbook.

Alumni visiting this section of their website can create their own yearbook page by filling in an online form. Alumni can add one of four different graphics; a country flag; a military image (US Airforce logo, F15, etc.); an interest (skiing, cycling, etc.); or an occupation image. The ability to add their photograph would definitely improve this feature.

The yearbook form requests information like this.

          Graduation year
          Employer information
          Geographic locations they took classes

The service features a basic search tool to find others by last name, or a viewers can select a letter and see all matches.

If your website is not getting much traction from your alumni and you do not have an online directory with profile pages that alumni can update, the University of Maryland, University College’s idea is a good way to engage alumni to update information and search others yearbook pages.  It seems to be working for them.  A quick view of “B” shows over 100 yearbook pages created by their alumni.

You can view this concept by taking a quick trip to their website. But don’t forget, give us your feedback.  What do you think of this concept?  How would you improve on it?
