Unique way to feature Alumni

Connect your webpage with your alumni’s home pages

The Christian Brothers University has adopted a novel way to engage and involve their alumni. They created a page on their site that links to their alumni’s home pages.  A visitor to the page is able to rearrange the page alphabetically or by class year making it easy for someone to quickly scan through the class year selection to see if there is anyone from their graduation year that has a page listed.

They encourage alumni to participate with a simple statement at the top of the page that says, “Email us your URL and we’ll add your Home Page to the list!”

Sound simple enough?   It really is.  Assuming your organization is using content management software or easy to update website tools, all your staff has to do is put the link on the page.  Giving viewers the flexibility of viewing alphabetically or by class year will require some programming.

You might want to consider asking/requiring alumni to link to your alumni page from their home page.

The Christian Brothers University Alumni association idea provides you 2 immediate benefits:

  • It’s a neat way to draw alumni to your site and engage them in browsing for other alumni’s content and information.  I wouldn’t be surprised if this page becomes your most accessed and active page.

  • If you ask/require them to link to your home page, your website will be ranked higher in search engines like Google which will draw alumni and “friends” to your web site

Not sure how to create a program that allows you to link alumni websites to your website.  Send me an email (don@iaccorp.com) and I’ll put you in touch with the folks who can explain the process.
